Possible copyright violation. It carries a PD-ineligible tag but actually is quite complex and probably is eligible for copyright. It claims [1] as the image source, which shows both this diagram and a ball-point pen alongside it in similar style. GKFXtalk 10:24, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: This image and its labels exist in a number of languages, so the labels are valuable in their own right and are presumably not covered by the copyright as the drawing itself. If the image is found to be a copyright violation, it would be ideal for the labels to be preserved for use labeling a future image. GKFXtalk 10:31, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This is of course eligible for copyright, and I think it is a copyright violation. But I would request the closing admins to wait for 7-10 days, before taking any action. Since there are many translations, I am trying to get in touch with the author (blog owner) and see if they can release this through OTRS. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 06:12, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GKFX: I am curious to know if the deletion of this image will also lead to the deletion of its translated versions. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 13:36, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@KCVelaga: I haven't nominated the translated versions but a closing admin could reasonably delete them as well. A possible way to save the content would be to delete the drawing but not the text from each of the translated versions, then COM:REVDEL the copyrighted version. Of course that would be a significant amount of work. GKFXtalk 09:15, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GKFX: Yes, I agree. The closing admin would delete the translated versions as well. I am not sure how do we preserve the content, and also considering the fact these words are common words and dictionary translations are easily available. So I don't think if we should especially store the content, as you said it would be a lot of work. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 09:58, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GKFX: Unfortunately my trials get an OTRS permission were unsuccessful. So my vote is also  Delete and also probably the translated versions. I think this should go to copyright violation speedy deletion. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 14:06, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rehman: Pinging to shed some light here. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 13:36, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I too think this is copyrightable, only because this is an almost exact replication. Line drawings of objects has been deleted in the past, but this particular case may be debatable (as it is a common object). Would we delete a line drawing of a common object like say, a bulb, just because it resembles very closely to another copyrighted diagram of a common bulb? If deleted, any translation that's based on this particular replication, would too fall under the same delete reason unfortunately. IMO, the best option would be to look out for the OTRS response. In the mean time, someone may consider creating a new SVG depicting the same thing in different way. Rehman 14:28, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Rehman: Thanks for commenting. I am trying to get the OTRS permission, but the discussion isn't going very positive. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 05:29, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
